The gloss categories for coatings and varnishes, measured at a 60˚ reflection angle, are as follows:

1. Full gloss over 80 units
2. Gloss 61–80 units
3. Semi-gloss 36–60 units
4. Semi-matt 11–35 units
5. Matt 6–10 units
6. Full matt 0–5 units
